Despite the closure of the University of Zambia during to COVID -19 the ministry of the UNZA Catholic Chaplaincy continues virtually. Here is a letter from the UNZA Chaplain that went out on WhatsApp to a good cross section of the Catholic students:-
12th May 2020
Dear UNZA Students and Fellow Elders!
How are you? Know that Fr Dondo and I pray for you every day. This evening at our community prayer we again remembered you all.
COVID – 19 is spreading with 174 new cases in the last 24 hours. So please take no chances. The rules are simple, but effective. Wash your hands with soap for a minimum of 20 seconds, greet only by clapping, don't touch your eyes or face and stay at home as much as you can. If you are going out, wear your mask and keep social distance.
In addition, on a more positive note, make sure you do everything you can to boost your own immune system. You know what that means: eat healthily (especially fruit, vegetables and pulses), take at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night (!!), and take appropriate exercise. Walking is good, but for those who can it's better to go for speed walking, jogging or any cardio-vascular exercise that increases your heart beat. You will find that after doing some vigorous exercise (not overdoing it) and a shower you will feel so good. By the attached photograph you can see we are trying to lead by example.
In addition, pray: you have own prayer style and programme by now. I will send you some suggestion later this week.
The fruits of the Spirit are: “Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness, gentleness and self-control.” This love and joy of the Spirit is one of best ingredients for building up your faith and your immune system. Doctors say that if you are sad and inactive you are more vulnerable to any disease.
I can send you more information on a healthy diet to build up your immunity, if you ask me. Also remember that on Thursday 14th May 2020 Pope Francis is inviting us to join an international day of prayer concerning the corona virus. More details later this evening.
Good night. May the blessing of Almighty God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit descend upon you and all the children of this world and remain with you forever. AMEN! ALLELUIA!
Lord, you are risen and active among us. AMEN.
